Pursuant to Section 2 of National Directorate of Trademarks Resolution No. 233/2023, each new edition of the Nice Classification, as well as any subsequent updates, is automatically adopted in Argentina.

Transfers of goods under the 13th Edition

A key feature of the 13th Edition is the transfer of certain goods between classes. Importantly, no transfers have been introduced with respect to service classes.

These changes should be carefully considered, particularly in connection with:

  • new trademark applications
  • trademark renewals
  • voluntary reclassifications,
  • portfolio audits.

Selected examples of transferred goods

By way of illustration, the following transfers will apply as from January 1, 2026:

• Class 1

Terpenes, transferred from Class 3.

Class 10

Optical glasses and eyewear, including lenses, frames, cases, contact lenses and eyewear for color vision deficiency, transferred from Class 9.

• Class 12

Fire-fighting vehicles and boats, lifeboats and evacuation chairs (from Class 9).

Sea kayaks (from Class 28).

• Class 17

Irrigation hose nozzles (from Class 21).

• Class 21

Tongue scrapers (from Class 10).

• Class 25

Electrothermal clothing, socks and footwear (from Class 11).

• Class 30

The full list of transferred goods is available in the official information published by WIPO and should be taken into account when handling renewals or reclassification strategies.

You may rest assured that our team will take these changes into account when filing new trademark applications and when processing renewals. The complete version of the 13th Edition of the Nice Classification is available at the following link.
