The Argentine Patent and Trademark Office (INPI) has published Resolution No. 75/2026, introducing a substantial increase in official fees, averaging around 100%, applicable to the main procedures processed before the Office.

The new fee schedule will enter into force on April 1, 2026. In addition, the Resolution establishes a new arancelary unit (UMAPI), which will become operational as from May 1, 2026.

1. Entry into Force – April 1, 2026

All official fees as from April 1, 2026 will be subject to the updated fee schedule.

Accordingly, filings and payments made on or before March 31, 2026 may still benefit from the current official fees.

2. Scope of the Increase

The increase applies to the core official fees charged by the INPI, including those related to the filing, prosecution, maintenance and renewal of industrial property rights, as well as other procedural actions.

A comparison with the previous fee schedule shows that, in practical terms, most official fees have doubled, representing a significant short‑term impact on filing and maintenance costs.

3. Introduction of the UMAPI and Future Adjustments (as from May 1, 2026)

The Resolution also introduces the Unidad de Medida Arancelaria de la Propiedad Industrial (UMAPI), a new reference unit in which INPI fees will be expressed going forward.

  • The value of the UMAPI will be adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index (IPC) published by INDEC.
  • The UMAPI system will become operational as from May 1, 2026.

While the increase effective April 1, 2026 is particularly significant, it is worth noting that current IPC figures show an average monthly inflation rate of approximately 3%. As a result, subsequent fee updates under the UMAPI system are expected to be more gradual, although their real impact will continue to depend on inflation levels and fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Argentine peso and the U.S. dollar.

4. Practical Recommendations

Considering these changes, we recommend:

  • Advancing filings, renewals and annuity payments where possible before April 1, 2026, to mitigate the immediate impact of the increase.
  • Reviewing short‑ and medium‑term IP budgets for Argentina, particularly for portfolios with upcoming deadlines.
  • Taking into account that, following this adjustment, future increases are likely to be smaller and more closely tied to inflation dynamics.
